The stunning hypocrisy of the right-wing – Elon Musk edition

depiction of a technocrat smashing through washington DC

Imagine, for a moment, that George Soros or Bill Gates were handed unprecedented control over the U.S. government, given unchecked power to dismantle federal agencies, and allowed to fire tens of thousands of employees at will. Imagine that a Democratic president had granted them access to classified government systems, the ability to reshape regulatory bodies to serve their business interests, and the right to spy on their competitors. How would the right-wing react?

There would be immediate calls for revolution. Armed protests would break out in every red state. Fox News would broadcast 24/7 segments on how democracy was under attack. Right-wing militias would take to the streets, vowing to “take back their country” from the billionaire elites who had seized control. Republican politicians would decry this as the ultimate betrayal of the American people, demanding investigations, impeachment, and mass resistance.

But when the richest man in the world, Elon Musk, is granted this exact level of power under Donald Trump, the right-wing response is silence—if not outright applause. Musk, a billionaire oligarch with no government experience, is being allowed to systematically dismantle U.S. institutions, fire thousands of federal employees, and reshape American policy for his own benefit. This is corporate authoritarianism in its purest form, and yet, the very people who claim to be patriots are cheering it on.

So the question must be asked: How far would you be willing to go to stop the dismantling of your country if you saw it happening in real-time? If you saw government organizations being gutted, the civil service being replaced with corporate loyalists, and critical institutions being turned into tools for a single man’s personal profit, would you act? Would you speak out? Or would you remain silent because the person doing it happened to be on “your team”?

The hypocrisy is glaring. Right-wing America has spent decades painting itself as the last defense against government overreach and the encroachment of billionaire influence. They call themselves the defenders of the Constitution, the last line of resistance against tyranny. But their loyalty is not to the country—it is to the man in power. When that man is Donald Trump, and the billionaire benefitting is Elon Musk, suddenly, government overreach is not only acceptable—it’s celebrated.

This is not about political teams. People with integrity would oppose any billionaire, whether Musk, Soros, or Gates, being handed the keys to dismantle the U.S. government. They would recognize that allowing unchecked corporate power to run the country is a betrayal of democracy, no matter who is pulling the strings.

America is being looted in real-time. The question is: Do you only care when it’s the other team doing the looting?
